World and Time Enough

TCU graduate Matt Guidry is Mark, a radical artist-activist. Gregory G. Giles is Joey, a garbage collector. Together, they sift through the detritus of family obligations, HIV status, temp jobs and the unavoidable, inexplicable fact that, in spite of everything, they're a happy couple.

A clever and bittersweet comedy, Eric Mueller's unlikely love story tracks the deceptively modest aspirations of a twenty-something couple as they grapple with love and morality.

Narrated by David (Kraig Swartz), an affably nelly friend, Mueller's feature debut follows the obsessive HIV-positive Mark as he progresses from neo-Christo sculpture-making to full-scale cathedral construction. The more low-key Joey, Mark's terminally cute boyfriend, hesitantly embarks on a quest to find his biological parents after an ugly coming-out scene with his adoptive parents.

Heartfelt and always lively, Mueller's film offers a witty glimpse into a side of gay coupledom rarely seen young, Midwestern, more grunge than chic. Rated R. USA, 1994, 90 min., 16mm, color.
