Twist
QQ1/2

I've never been a big fan of the gay, junkie, street-hustler sub-genre of cinema (yes, it's an entire sub-genre). Watching pasty, hollow-eyed lads chain-smoking through endless sexual indignities is depressing, even when they Saran Wrap the setting over classic literature. Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist is the victim here, with the Artful Dodger (or "Dodge" as played by Nick Stahl) as a streetwise veteran and Oliver (Joshua Close) as the wide-eyed newbie whose pocket-picking on the streets of London has been updated to turning tricks in the chilly alleys of Toronto. Filmmakers eager to make another of these little downers, listen up: Please, sirs, may we have no more? The DVD includes director and actor commentary and is in widescreen format.
