You might hate the subject matter he works with -- sympathetic pedophiles, morose outcasts and loveless, dysfunctional families -- but director Todd Solondz (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Happiness) always crafts amazingly interesting stories populated by off-putting but fascinating characters. His latest film focuses on the misinterpretation of art as envisioned in two unrelated stories. The latter tale, in which a pathetic documentarian chronicles the life of an aimless, sexually ambivalent high school loser, is Solondz at his darkly comic best. DVD extras include both the R and unrated versions, trailer and full and widescreen formats.
