This surprisingly clever mockumentary follows a gay writer/producer who, in a bizarre change of pace, decides to pursue a career as a Vegas showboy/dancer after losing his job working on HBO's Six Feet Under. Oblivious to the fact that the British documentary crew filming his every move is aware of his misfortune, and unfettered by his own inexperience, he pretends his actions are research for a script. Funny, sad and occasionally pathetic, Showboy walks the `"what's real and what isn't'' line nicely (buoyed by appearances by Alan Ball, Whoopi Goldberg and Siegfried & Roy) while ultimately applauding anyone who follows a dream, however misguided it might seem. The DVD includes filmmaker commentary; deleted scenes; trailer; widescreen format.
