In Living Color
QQQ

Keenen Ivory Wayans' African-American version of the mostly white-bread Saturday Night Live proved to be an influential player on the comedy landscape, even if its biggest breakaway stars happened to be white and Hispanic (Jim Carrey and former Fly Girl Jennifer Lopez). Although the first season of In Living Color was heavy on impersonations (some of the best original characters didn't come along until season two), unforgettable bits such as "Men on Film," "Homey the Clown" and "The Homeboy Shopping Network" demonstrate why it was a show whose time had come. Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier's ultra effeminate hosts of the show's various "Men On...." segments (pictured above) might have raised the ire of more sensitive queers, but the their wild outfits, clever catchphrases and endless double entendres were too much fun to stay made for long. The DVD includes commentaries on select episodes, featurettes on the first season, a look back and the Fly Girls, 2001 HBO Comedy Festival appearance and is in full-screen format.
