Q CINEMA PRESENTS ONE-NIGHT ONLY PRESENTATION OF
ACTOR LESLIE JORDAN'S NEW ONE-MAN SHOW,
When You Swish Upon a Star
Known by millions for his role on Will & Grace and as Brother Boy in Sordid Lives, which made its North Texas debut at the 2000 Q Cinema film festival, Leslie Jordan will keep the audience in stitches with a first-time-in-Texas sneak peek at his autobiographical comedy/drama one-man play When You Swish Upon a Star at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the historic Casa Manana Theater.
Currently running in Los Angeles under the title Like a Dog on Linoleum, the show recounts Jordan's life as a young boy from the Deep South who fell out of the womb, landed in his mama's high heels, hopped a Greyhound bus for California, and has never looked back. In his own innate, irresistibly precious style, the production comes alive with tall, true tales from the land of hat-wearing southern belles -- to the "wilds" of New York City, "Hollyweird" and Bucharest. During its development process throughout North America, the show has played to sold-out audiences in Palm Springs, Toronto, Southampton and to standing-room-only audiences in Provincetown.
Since his arrival in Los Angeles in 1982, Leslie Jordan has appeared in countless television shows, films and commercials. He is perhaps best-known for playing the role of Brother Boy in Del Shores' film adaptation of his play Sordid Lives also starring Olivia Newton-John, Delta Burke and Beau Bridges. Jordan is widely recognized for the recurring role of Beverly Leslie, best friend and arch-nemesis of Karen (Megan Mullaly) on NBC's Will & Grace. He has also had recurring roles on television's Ally McBeal, Boston Public and Reba. In Los Angeles, Jordan has won an Ovation Award, a Garland Award and the Los Angeles Drama Critics' Circle Award for his portrayal of Preston Leroy, the aging, sodden homosexual in Del Shores' hit play Southern Baptist Sissies.
Additionally, he has enjoyed more than measurable success as a writer. His play Hysterical Blindness and other Southern Tragedies that have Plagued My Life thus Far ran to sold-out houses in Los Angeles (as well as Fort Worth's Circle Theater) and had a successful seven-month run Off-Broadway in New York City. His screenplay, Lost in the Pershing Point Hotel, won the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival's Production Grant Award, was subsequently produced, made its Texas premiere at Q Cinema in 2002 and is currently being distributed by Northern Arts Entertainment. It's available on DVD on Dec. 14.
Leslie Jordan will perform When You Swish Upon a Star at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Casa Manana theater, 3101 W. Lancaster Ave. in Fort Worth. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and $15 for students and $30 for reserve seating section. Online and phone orders will have an additional fee.
