Watching Canadian comics Dave Foley, Scott Thompson, Bruce
McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Kevin McDonald reminisce about the shaky origins
of The Kids in the Hall TV series, you'd think this first-season
collection would come off as amateurish and unpolished. Sure, some of the
bits are a little stagy and goodness knows the guys got much more comfortable
in front of the cameras, but brilliant creations, from the flamboyantly
gay Buddy Cole to the Crushing Your Head guy, prove this group was way before
its time and they look really good in drag. They're Canada's Monty Python,
and I can't think of higher praise than that. The four-disc DVD set includes
commentary, an oral history, best-of compilations, unseen early footage
and is in full-screen format.
