Connie and Carla
QQQ

Nia Vardalos, the writer and star of what was probably one of the most overrated hits in movie history, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, mines familiar elements here. Connie and Carla is packed with walking stereotypes (replace Wedding's Greeks with gay men and drag queens), and the story is so oversimplified and implausible that you can't help but roll your eyes every few minutes. But, like Wedding, it's also unmistakably charming and addictively entertaining. Vardalos (who also writes again) and Toni Collette are a washed up singing duo eking out a living performing show tunes in an airport lounge. When they accidentally witness a murder, the two go into hiding by masquerading as drag queens in a withering LA gay bar, where they quickly become local legends. Far-fetched to be sure, but with all the amusing song routines, many of which are extended on the DVD, its hard to watch without smiling. The DVD includes actor and filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, extended musical scenes, outtakes, making-of featurette and is available in full- and widescreen editions.
