Southern Comfort (2002)

As transsexuality continues to be almost as
baffling to the gay community as it is to the straights, some recent efforts,
both fictional and fact-based, have gone a long way toward explaining this
mysterious side of human sexuality. HBO's Normal was one, and this
powerfully moving documentary is another. At 52, Robert Eads looks the part
of a backwoods, chain-smoking country boy. Except for the fact that he was
born a woman. His relationship with male-to-female transsexual Lola and
his losing battle with cancer act as the backdrop for a love story more
affecting than anything Hollywood could have crafted. The DVD includes deleted
scenes, interviews, photo gallery, filmmaker statement, trailers, full-screen
format.
