OPENING NIGHT
But I'm a Cheerleader

AMC Sundance 11
Opening Night Gala at The Milan Gallery
Megan (Natasha Lyonne) has got it all. She's the model teen-ager that strait-laced parents dream of a top student and popular cheerleader who dates the captain of the football team. But her friends and family begin to notice things that cause them concern: she's a vegetarian, doesn't like kissing her boyfriend and her locker is adorned with swimsuit issue pages instead of teen heartthrobs. Determined to save her from insipient lesbianism, her loved ones stage an intervention and ship her off to the five-step, homo-rehab camp "True Directions," run by ex-gay Mike (RuPaul Charles sans drag). Megan never thought of herself as a lesbian (she is a cheerleader after all) and she becomes the model student at the "conversion" camp and works hard at becoming straight. But, when she meets Graham (Clea Du Vall), a rich girl who has no intention of rehabbing, Megan begins to question whether or not everyone was right about her all along. (81 min.)
