Bob & Rose
QQQQ

Russell T. Davies, the Brit wit behind the brilliant U.K. series Queer as Folk (the American version of which has paled in comparison), tackles the complicated issue of sexuality in the delightfully thought-provoking British TV series Bob & Rose, about the unlikely romance between a straight woman and a gay man. If the thought of it makes you bristle -- gay people don't choose their sexuality and all that -- you'll be surprised at how intelligently the show deals with it. Bob is still gay but almost as inexplicably to him as to his friends he falls genuinely, fully in love with a woman.Though the show is well made and beautifully acted (especially by leads Alan Davies and Lesley Sharp), it's real asset is Davies' consistently top-notch writing. (Compare it with his equally engaging spin on religion, The Second Coming, also out this week.) DVD extras include creator commentary, production notes and bios.
