Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss (2000, R)

Director: Tommy O'Haver

QQQQ1/2

Easily one of last year's finest (and most crowd-pleasing) films, this unforgettable story centers on 11-year-old Billy (Jamie Bell, in an amazing debut performance), a passionate youngster who defies his working-class father (Gary Lewis) in order to pursue his dream of becoming a dancer. Robbed at the Oscars (it received only three nominations), Billy Elliot is the kind of rare gem that can reduce even the most black-hearted, hardened-cynical critic to a helplessly blubbering idiot. Deciphering the British slang might be a challenge for the uninitiated, but this treasure is worth every effort. Buy it and share it with everyone you know. The DVD includes production notes; trailer; making-of featurette; highlights; DVD-ROM features; and widescreen format.
