As Good As It Gets

QQQ1/2

Helen Hunt's profane little rant on HMOs may have been justification enough for her Best Actress Oscar. But it's Jack Nicholson's show all the way (he also took home a statue) as an obsessive-compulsive creepo sucked into the lives of a gay-bashed artist neighbor (Greg Kinnear) and a struggling waitress (Hunt) with an ailing child. Director James L. Brooks gives the whole thing the feel of a really good TV show; with characters so well-rounded and engaging, you really won't mind the flaws. PG-13 (profanity, adult situations, brief nudity).
