Adam and Steve
SOUTHWEST PREMIERE
7:30 p.m. Rave Motion Pictures Ridgmar 13, $10

Former Dallasite-turned queer Hollywood mainstay Craig Chester (Swoon, Grief, Frisk) has continued to impress us ever since he proved himself as talented a writer as he is an actor. His hilarious best-selling memoir Why the Long Face? is a must read and now, Chester is about to turn even more heads with his hysterical directorial debut, Adam & Steve. After a brief prelude set in 1987 when young goth-about-town Adam (Chester) gets pushed by gal-pal Rhonda (Parker Posey) into a disastrous one-night stand with a coke-snorting Solid Gold-ish go-go dancer, we flash-forward to modern-day New York City, where now thirtysomething, perpetually-single Adam is working giving bird-watch tours of Central Park, in an Alcoholics Anonymous recovery program and doting on his dog. One accidental slip of the knife later, Adam finds himself in a hospital meeting gay psychiatrist Steve (Malcom Gets of NBC's Caroline in the City), and is once again pushed into pursuing a connection by Rhonda. "We're in our 30s," implores Rhonda. "We have to get more aggressive!" Rhonda takes her own advice and soon hooks up with Steve's roommate Michael (Chris Kattan of Saturday Night Live) while Adam and Steve begin dating each other with a level of neurosis even Woody Allen would find difficult to rival. Chester 's breakthrough is nothing short of astonishing, and it's thrilling to see his artistry mature and take on such a confident new direction. The wonderful supporting cast also includes stars Sally Kirkland, Melinda Dillon and Julie Hagerty.
