15TH ANNIVERSARY
Longtime Companion
2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, Casa Manana, $15

It's been almost 15 years since the first major studio film to deal with the subject of AIDS was released, and though many strides have been made, the disease, unfortunately, is still with us. We look back at this benchmark picture and remember those in our lives who have been affected by AIDS and HIV in a special tribute following the film. Focusing on a closely knit group of friends in New York City, the film spans an entire decade, from the first reports of a mystery illness to a time when the disease became a tragic part of everyday life. Craig Lucas' script is insightful, heart-wrenching and funny, with excellent performances from the entire cast, especially Bruce Davison, who received a well-deserved Oscar nomination. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Samaritan House of Fort Worth. 96 min. USA, 1990, DVD
