TEXAS PREMIERE
Girls Shorts
2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, Fort Worth Public Library, $10

Four Texas premieres make our ladies' short subjects program extra special. A young woman imagines her escape in the brief moments before a hate crime in A Woman Reported. The experimental documentary Closer offers a poignant character study of 17-year-old lesbian in Newcastle, England. Pashke and Sofia provides a rare glimpse into Albanian culture and gender roles with the story of a woman who takes an oath as a "sworn virgin" in exchange for the status and respect deemed worthy of males. An adult beginner's basketball class triggers memories of childhood humiliations in Pre-Title IX Girl. And Austin filmmaker Susan Turley serves up an amusing tale centered around Texas' ridiculous dildo penal code in the chicken-fried comedy Bad Vibes.
